Valuing local or well-adapted fruit varieties

Following work done in 2013 gathering interesting varieties and remarkable trees in the Minervois, BEDE supports valuing this diversity through the numerous partners of Chemin Cueillant who wish to plant orchards in the near future. To assist these planting projects, a first tour of those interested was done to better identify the wishes of each and to orient them towards interesting varieties. However, this assistance had two specific objectives :

  • To favor planting orchards that will allow for preservation of remarkable, rare, unique trees by multiplying them and conserving them in sever places;
  • To allow for a comparison of the qualities of different varieties and different production methods of the young trees (seeded in place, grafted in place, etc.)
