IPC (International Planning Committee for Food Sovereignty)

What is IPC ?

The International Planning Committee for Food Sovereignty (IPC) is an autonomous and self-organised global platform of small-scale food producers, rural workers’ associations, grassroots/community-based organisations and social movements (800 organisations and 300 million people).
The IPC strives to build spaces where social organizations, particularly international and regional organizations of smallscale food producers, work together for the food sovereignty agenda and to gain effective voice in policy making.
The CIP was formally established in 2003 in response to the simplification of the issue of agriculture focusing only on export to international markets. It facilitates the creation of alliances and synergy between the different movements and dialogue with governments and institutions.

Civil Society contribution to the first report on FAO’s State of the World’s Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture (SoW-BFA)
The Secretariat of FAO’s Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA) has commissioned the IPC to prepare a study, which will be the Civil Society contribution to the first report on FAO’s State of the World’s Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture (SoW-BFA), due to be published in 2017. BEDE is part of the working group on agricultural biodiversity and participates in the collection and synthesis of data presented in the study that will be used for the FAO report.

Call to Peasant Organizations to sign the Message from farmers’ seed networks around the world to member governements of the governing body of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (IT PGRFA)
(meeting in Rome, 5-9 october 2015)
” We want to tell you that you are in the process of destroying the treaty. It is organising the theft of our seeds and our knowledge. We can no longer continue to give them to researchers and other prospectors that come and collect them in our fields, to then put them in the Treaty’s gene banks. As long as you do not ban all bio-pirated patents, as long as farmers do not have a right to keep, use, exchange and sell seeds from their own harvests, then we will not collaborate with research and gene banks that serve the multinational seed companies.“[…] › More information, the complete call in French, English, Spanish and Portuguese, and the signatories on the Peasant Seeds Network site.
To sign or support the appeal, please send us back the name of your organization :

Support the advocacy for the declaration on the rights of peasants and people working in rural areas defended by FIAN, Via Campesina and other allied organizations.
“The Human Rights Council of the United Nations affirmed the need for a specific legal instrument and approved on September 27, 2012, the constitution of a working group to prepare a Declaration for the rights of peasants and other people working in rural areas. Two negotiating sessions (2013 and 2015) have led to a first draft of the Declaration. The challenge today is to continue to put pressure on states so they assert a real political will to advance the rights of peasants. We have, in this respect, a particular responsibility in Europe, the majority of Member States of the European Union being more than reluctant to adopting this Declaration. (FIAN Belgium)
